Muse Makers - Holiday Cards

Friday December 9th 6-8pm

$50/per person or $45 each if you sign up with a friend and use code musemaker5

In this adult workshop participants will learn how to carve their own stamp which will then be used to create greeting cards.
This technique is called relief printmaking and it is sure to impress your friends and family.
The best part…? You can take the stamp home and make cards indefinitely!
 

Single Day Classes

Play with Clay

Saturdays 12:30-1:30, 2-3pm, 3:30-4:30   $30/person.

Learn a hand-building technique while being led step by step through a ceramics project. “Play with Clay” projects are designed to leave room for your creative spirit so you can have fun and create something you love! A wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Grab a friend and come on in! Families welcome. 

Return a few weeks later to glaze your piece!

Take a Spin

Have you always wanted to try throwing on the wheel? Well, here is your chance! This new mini workshop is designed for beginners just like you who want to “Take A Spin” on the pottery wheel. Ages 13 and up. 

Return a few weeks later to glaze your piece! 

*Evening Take a Spin requires a reservation and is only open to students 18 and older.

Pottery Painting

Stop in during our open studio hours 12-5pm* 

Come choose from our selection of unique bisqueware and have fun glazing it. You choose the colors and design. Examples will be available to help ignite your imagination and a Clay Studio Attendant to help with questions. All levels and ages are welcome. 

$25 per piece. Pay inside the gallery when you arrive.

*Glazing usually takes about 1 hour to complete. Doors close at 4pm to ensure participants have enough time to glaze.

Pottery Date Night

1st and 3rd Saturdays 6-7:30pm 

$60/per couple

Join us for a tandem wheel experience a-la the movie “Ghost.” Couples will be instructed on the basics of wheel throwing and then will take a spin on the wheel together. A unique and fun date idea for any couple! 

If a successful piece is thrown by the end of the session students may return during open studio hours (12-5pm on Saturdays) to glaze their piece together. 

Please be sure to register as a couple (only one registration is necessary for both participants.)

Take a Spin Evening

2nd Saturdays 6-7:30pm $45/per person

Take a Spin evening allows participants to enjoy a night on the town! Visit the Muse for Take a Spin and then enjoy the many restaurants in downtown Modesto to complete your night!

Venture Clay

Venture Clay is set up so that students are able to try wheel throwing on their own schedule. Purchase a four or eight-punch card and choose from our four beginning wheel throwing classes (listed below) to attend. You may join in with the lesson of the day or be lightly instructed to gain throwing skills.

Learn to throw cups, bowls, and vases in this introductory class. Basic low-fire glazing techniques will be taught to produce beautiful finished ceramic pieces.

These classes are designed to be ongoing. Wheel throwing, like any art form, takes lots of practice! If you would like to only join us for a month please call the gallery and ask about our Venture Clay punch cards.

Have a bit of experience on the wheel? Want to challenge your throwing and design skills? This beginner/intermediate class is geared toward those who are able to center their own clay, can throw a cylinder (albeit imperfect!) and are looking to try new techniques and forms.

Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Tuesdays 6-8pm

Those who have achieved throwing competency are welcome in this class. Students will learn more advanced throwing techniques such as throwing lidded vessels, altering wheel-thrown pieces, constructing multi-part pieces such as teapots, and more. More complex glazing and mid-range firing will be available.

This class is for everyone! Enjoy an open-ended, fluid experience that allows you to use the materials provided (texture tools, slab-rolling equipment, pottery wheel, and more!) to create functional pieces of pottery and beautiful works of art based on your individual artistic goals. Clay Explorations Bimonthly

1st and 3rd Mondays 1-3pm
Instructor - Sandra Veneman

This class will explore the many facets of clay from forming and firing to surface decoration and glazing. Learn some hand-building techniques and dabble with wheel throwing. Try out an array of glazing techniques from underglaze to luster firing. All levels are welcome.

Longlady Project

1st and 3rd Mondays 4-6pm 

February through May

Instructor – Sandra Veneman

$150/monthly or $540/semester (save 10%!!) This is a project based class and participants must commit to the whole semester. Registration closes after the first class.

Learn the basics of hand-building and sculpture techniques in clay and other materials to create your own personalized Longlady. Students will explore various techniques and materials to create a truly one-of-a-kind work of art in the style of Sandra Veneman’s Longladies. Students will be guided step by step through the process of creating their very own LongLady. All materials and supplies need to create your Longlady will be included, however, students may wish to provide specialty materials or other embellishments in addition to those provided.
